  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)

For the Beef Topping:

  • 1/2 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For Assembly:

  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese of choice)

  • Fresh herbs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Make the Potato Pancakes:

    • Place grated potatoes in a clean towel or cheesecloth and squeeze out excess moisture.

    • In a bowl, mix potatoes, onion, egg, flour, salt, and pepper until combined.

    • Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Spoon heaping tablespoons of mixture into pan and flatten.

    • Fry 3–4 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.

  • Prepare the Beef Topping:

    • In another skillet, brown the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks.

    • Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook until fully browned.

  • Assemble the Dish:

    • Place potato pancakes on serving plate.

    • Top with ground beef and sprinkle with shredded cheese.

    • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Try adding a dollop of sour cream or salsa for extra flavor.

  • Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.

  • You can use mozzarella or pepper jack for a cheesy twist.
