These Madeleines are soft, buttery, and delicately sweet — the perfect classic French dessert to prepare at home. With hints of vanilla and lemon, they’re ideal for tea time or a light, elegant treat!
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
⅔ cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Zest of 1 lemon (optional)
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a madeleine pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract and lemon zest (if using).
Gently fold in dry ingredients. Add melted butter and mix until smooth.
Spoon batter into prepared madeleine molds, filling each about ¾ full.
Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Best served fresh, slightly warm.
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Try orange zest instead of lemon for a different twist.
