These Madeleines are soft, buttery, and delicately sweet — the perfect classic French dessert to prepare at home. With hints of vanilla and lemon, they’re ideal for tea time or a light, elegant treat!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • ⅔ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional)

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a madeleine pan.

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract and lemon zest (if using).

  • Gently fold in dry ingredients. Add melted butter and mix until smooth.

  • Spoon batter into prepared madeleine molds, filling each about ¾ full.

  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  • Cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Best served fresh, slightly warm.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

  • Try orange zest instead of lemon for a different twist.
