Flaky, buttery apple pastry rings filled with caramelized spiced apples, perfect for a crisp fall morning treat. These delightful spirals combine tender cinnamon-sugar apples wrapped in golden puff pastry, finished with an optional cinnamon glaze for extra sweetness.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 medium apples, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp butter

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Optional Glaze

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • Pinch of cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pastry rings.
  2. Cook Apple Filling: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the thinly sliced apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into strips approximately 1 to 1.5 inches wide.
  4. Assemble Rings: Take each pastry strip and wrap it around a small cluster of apple slices to form rings or spirals. Make sure the pastry overlaps slightly to secure the shape.
  5. Place on Baking Sheet & Brush: Arrange the assembled pastry rings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops lightly with the beaten egg to give a beautiful golden finish.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Prepare Optional Glaze: While the pastries bake, mix the powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk and a pinch of cinnamon until smooth to make a cinnamon glaze.
  8. Drizzle & Serve: Once baked, let the apple pastry rings cool slightly. Drizzle with the prepared cinnamon glaze for added sweetness and a lovely finish. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for a balanced sweet-tart flavor.
  • Make sure puff pastry is properly thawed for easy rolling and shaping.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute butter with coconut oil and use a plant-based milk for the glaze.
  • These rings can be assembled ahead and refrigerated for up to 1 day before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven to maintain flakiness.
