Ingredients

Scale

For the Ground Beef:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Garlic Yogurt Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste

For the Wraps:

  • 4 pita breads, warmed
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Cherry tomatoes, halved
  • Red onion, thinly sliced
  • Fresh parsley or mint

Instructions

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet along with ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook while breaking up the meat with a spoon until it is browned and cooked through, about 7–8 minutes.
  3. Prepare Garlic Yogurt Sauce: In a small bowl, combine Greek yogurt, minced garlic clove, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. Mix well to create a smooth, tangy sauce.
  4. Assemble Wraps: Warm the pita breads before filling each with a portion of the cooked ground beef, sliced cucumber, halved cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, and a generous drizzle of garlic yogurt sauce.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish the wraps with fresh parsley or mint leaves for added freshness and serve immediately for the best flavor.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground lamb for beef for a more authentic Mediterranean flavor.
  • For extra spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when cooking the beef.
  • Use whole wheat pita bread for a healthier option.
  • Make sure to warm the pita breads before assembling for easier wrapping and better texture.
  • The garlic yogurt sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
