Ingredients

Scale

For the Ground Beef:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Wrap Assembly:

  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, diced
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced

For the Spicy Harissa Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 12 tbsp harissa paste (adjust to heat preference)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef along with garlic powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook the mixture until the beef is browned and fully cooked, about 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally to break the meat into small pieces.
  2. Prepare the Harissa Sauce: In a bowl, combine plain Greek yogurt, harissa paste (start with 1 tablespoon and add more if desired for heat), lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. Whisk the ingredients together until the sauce is smooth and well blended.
  3. Warm the Pita Breads: Heat the pita breads in a dry skillet over medium heat or wrap them in foil and warm in the oven until soft and pliable, making them easier to fold.
  4. Assemble the Wraps: Lay out each warm pita bread and layer shredded lettuce, diced cherry tomatoes, diced cucumber, thinly sliced red onion, and the cooked spiced ground beef inside.
  5. Add the Sauce and Serve: Drizzle a generous amount of spicy harissa sauce over the fillings. Fold the pita to enclose the ingredients and serve immediately while warm and fresh.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of harissa paste in the sauce to increase or decrease the spiciness according to your taste.
  • For a lighter option, use lean ground beef or substitute with ground turkey or chicken.
  • Feel free to add additional toppings like feta cheese or fresh herbs such as parsley or mint for extra flavor.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the pita breads with gluten-free flatbreads or lettuce wraps.
  • Ensure the pita breads are warmed properly to prevent cracking when folding the wraps.
