Ingredients

Scale

For the Donuts:

  • 1 1/2 cups glutinous rice flour
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Black Sesame Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup black sesame seeds, ground
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan thoroughly to ensure the donuts release easily after baking.
  2. Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together glutinous rice flour, almond flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. Mix wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together whole milk, eggs, melted unsalted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry mixtures. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring gently to form a smooth batter without lumps.
  5. Fill the donut pan. Using a piping bag or spoon, fill each donut mold about three-quarters full with the batter to allow room for rising during baking.
  6. Bake the donuts. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the donuts turn golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  7. Prepare the black sesame glaze. In a bowl, whisk together ground black sesame seeds, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until you achieve a smooth, pourable glaze.
  8. Glaze the donuts. Dip each cooled donut into the black sesame glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the glazed donuts on a rack or parchment paper to let the coating set before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh black sesame seeds and grind them just before making the glaze to maintain flavor.
  • Don’t overfill the donut molds to prevent batter overflow while baking.
  • Glutinous rice flour gives the donuts their signature chewy texture—do not substitute with regular rice flour.
  • Store glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • To make gluten-free, ensure all ingredients, especially baking powder, are certified gluten-free.
