Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef

  • 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil or olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For the Stir-Fry

  • 1 lb (450 g) bok choy, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

For the Sauce

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Garnish

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oil: Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat to prepare for cooking the beef.
  2. Cook the Beef: Add beef to the hot pan and cook for 3–4 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove from pan and set aside to keep warm.
  3. Sauté Garlic: In the same pan, add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant, taking care not to burn.
  4. Cook the Bok Choy: Add chopped bok choy and cook for 2–3 minutes until slightly wilted but still crisp, ensuring it retains its fresh texture.
  5. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and sesame oil to create a balanced savory-sweet sauce.
  6. Combine and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the pan and pour the sauce over it. Toss everything together and cook for 1–2 minutes until the mixture is coated in a glossy sauce.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving for added texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of regular soy sauce.
  • You can substitute honey with maple syrup or agave for a different sweetness profile.
  • To add heat, consider adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes during the garlic sauté step.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Use fresh, firm bok choy for the best texture.
