Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (120ml) milk (whole or evaporated)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (175g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (tossed in 1 tablespoon flour to prevent sinking)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9×5-inch (23×13 cm) loaf pan, lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Alternate Additions: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk, starting and ending with the flour.
  6. Stir in Flavor: Stir in the vanilla extract, then gently fold in the flour-coated chocolate chips.
  7. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
