For the Chocolate Sponge Cake:

  • 4 large eggs
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup (30 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (or melted butter)
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Cream Filling:

  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy whipping cream
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Ganache:

  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • 100 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional, for shine)

Instructions

  1. Make the Sponge Cake – Preheat oven. Beat eggs and sugar until tripled in volume. Sift dry ingredients, fold in, add wet ingredients, pour into pan, bake.
  2. Roll the Cake – Invert hot cake onto towel, roll, cool.
  3. Make the Cream Filling – Whip cream, sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Spread on unrolled cake, re-roll.
  4. Make the Ganache – Heat cream, pour over chocolate, stir until smooth. Add butter for shine.
  5. Decorate – Pour ganache over cake, garnish as desired.

Notes

  • Roll the cake while warm to prevent cracking.
  • Chill before slicing for neat spirals.
  • You can add coffee, caramel drizzle, or fruit jam for extra flavor.
