Delightful cinnamon sugar cream cheese roll-ups featuring flaky puff pastry filled with a sweet and creamy cinnamon-spiced filling, baked until golden and perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry Layer

  • 68 sheets of puff pastry or phyllo dough, thawed
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 125g cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  • 2 tbsp cinnamon sugar (1 tbsp cinnamon + 1 tbsp sugar)
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Make Filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until it forms a smooth, creamy mixture free of lumps.
  3. Assemble Roll-ups: Lay one sheet of puff pastry or phyllo dough flat on a clean surface. Lightly brush it with melted butter to give a golden finish and enhance flavor. Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture over the buttered pastry sheet.
  4. Add Cinnamon Sugar: Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the cream cheese layer to add sweetness and spice.
  5. Roll and Slice: Carefully roll the pastry sheet tightly into a log shape, ensuring the filling stays inside. Using a sharp knife, cut the log into 1 to 2-inch pieces and arrange them cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Final Touch: Brush the tops of the roll-ups with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle additional cinnamon sugar if you want an extra cinnamon crunch.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 12–15 minutes until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the filling is set.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the roll-ups from the oven and let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar if using. Serve warm for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • Phyllo dough can be used as a lighter alternative to puff pastry but be sure to layer and brush each sheet with butter to achieve flakiness.
  • For a more intense cream cheese flavor, chill the filling before spreading.
  • Roll-ups can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a couple of extra minutes to the baking time if baking chilled.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh or within a day for optimal texture.
