Halloumi Rolls

  • 250 g halloumi cheese, cut into thick sticks
  • 6 sheets phyllo pastry
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)

Hot Chili Orange Honey

  • ¼ cup honey
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 tbsp fresh orange juice
  • ½ tsp chili flakes (or 1 small red chili, finely chopped)

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or mint, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Phyllo Rolls: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Lay one sheet of phyllo pastry on a clean surface and brush lightly with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top and brush again with butter. Cut the stacked phyllo sheets into strips about 6–8 cm wide.
  2. Assemble Halloumi Rolls: Place a stick of halloumi cheese at the end of each phyllo strip. Fold the sides over the cheese and roll tightly to encase the halloumi. Brush the outside of each roll with melted butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  3. Bake the Rolls: Arrange the prepared halloumi rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes, or until the phyllo is golden brown and crisp.
  4. Prepare Hot Chili Orange Honey: While the rolls bake, gently warm honey in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in the orange zest, fresh orange juice, and chili flakes. Cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring occasionally until fragrant, then remove from heat.
  5. Serve: Once the halloumi rolls are baked, drizzle them with the hot chili orange honey and garnish with chopped fresh parsley or mint. Serve immediately while warm and crispy.

  • Use fresh phyllo and keep unused sheets covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  • Adjust chili flakes quantity to control the heat level of the honey drizzle.
