For the Greek Beef
- 700 g ground beef or thinly sliced beef strips
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Spicy Feta Sauce
- 200 g feta cheese, crumbled
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1–2 tbsp chili paste or harissa (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Black pepper to taste
For the Wraps
- 6 soft pita breads or flatbreads
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup diced cucumber
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- ½ small red onion, thinly sliced
Optional Garnish
- Fresh parsley or dill
- Lemon wedges
- Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, dried oregano, smoked paprika, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Add the ground beef or beef strips and toss well to coat. Let the beef marinate for 15 to 20 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Cook the Beef: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and fully cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare the Spicy Feta Sauce: In a food processor or mixing bowl, combine crumbled feta cheese, Greek yogurt, chili paste or harissa (adjust quantity to your preferred spice level), olive oil, lemon juice, and a pinch of black pepper. Blend or whisk until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Warm the Pitas: Lightly warm the pita breads or flatbreads in a dry pan or oven, making them pliable and soft for wrapping.
- Assemble the Wraps: Spread a generous layer of the spicy feta sauce over each pita bread. Top with the cooked beef, shredded lettuce, diced cucumber, halved cherry tomatoes, and thinly sliced red onion.
- Garnish and Serve: Fold the pitas into wraps. Optionally, garnish with fresh parsley or dill and serve with lemon wedges on the side for an extra zesty finish. Serve immediately for best taste.
Notes
- For a spicier sauce, increase the chili paste or harissa according to taste.
- You can substitute ground lamb for a traditional Greek flavor.
- Use gluten-free flatbreads to make this recipe gluten-free.
- Wraps are best served fresh to maintain the pita’s softness.
- Leftover beef can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days.
