Ingredients

Scale

Cake Base

  • 1 box (430 g) chocolate cake mix
  • 115 g unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Layer

  • 225 g cream cheese, softened
  • 250 g powdered sugar
  • 200 g creamy peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Topping

  • 120 g semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal.
  2. Make Cake Base: In a large bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and one egg. Stir until a thick dough forms. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create a firm base layer.
  3. Prepare Peanut Butter Cream Cheese Layer: In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, creamy peanut butter, powdered sugar, the remaining two eggs, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Continue mixing until the mixture is smooth and creamy without lumps.
  4. Assemble Cake: Pour the peanut butter cream cheese mixture evenly over the chocolate cake base. Spread gently with a spatula to cover the entire surface. Sprinkle semisweet chocolate chips evenly on top to add gooey chocolate bursts.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes. The edges should be set while the center remains slightly gooey—avoid overbaking to maintain that ooey-gooey texture.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 20 minutes. Slice into 12 servings and serve warm. For extra indulgence, add a drizzle of melted chocolate or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.

Notes

  • Do not overbake the cake; the center should remain a little gooey for the perfect texture.
  • For a nut-free version, substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter or omit entirely.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese for easier mixing and a smoother layer.
  • Ensure the baking dish is properly greased and lined to prevent sticking.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat slightly before serving.
  • Adding a drizzle of melted chocolate or vanilla ice cream enhances the dessert experience.
