Yellow Cake:

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk

Chocolate Frosting:

  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups (420g) powdered sugar
  • ½ cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (60ml) heavy cream or milk (more if needed)

Instructions

  1. Yellow Cake: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Cream butter and sugar until pale. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Alternate adding flour mixture and milk, mix until combined. Divide batter into pans, bake.
  2. Chocolate Frosting: Beat butter until creamy. Gradually beat in sifted powdered sugar, cocoa, and salt. Mix in vanilla and cream until fluffy. Adjust cream for consistency.
