Ingredients

Scale

Cake Batter

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder

Chocolate Sauce

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk

Instructions

  1. Make the Cake Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar together until frothy and pale. Add the vegetable oil and milk, whisking briefly until combined. Sift in the cocoa powder, vanilla extract, flour, and baking powder, then gently fold them into the wet ingredients using a spatula or use a mixer on low speed until you achieve a smooth, even batter.
  2. Prepare the Chocolate Sauce: Combine the cocoa powder, vegetable oil, sugar, and milk in a saucepan. Stir over medium heat gently until the sugar completely dissolves. Remove the sauce from heat before it starts boiling and set aside one cup of this warm sauce for pouring over the cake later.
  3. Bake the Cake: Grease a baking pan or mold thoroughly and pour the prepared batter evenly into it. Place in a preheated oven at 170–180°C (340–355°F) and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  4. Soak the Cake: Allow the cake to cool for 2 to 3 minutes after removing it from the oven. While still warm, pour the reserved sauce evenly over the cake so it absorbs the rich chocolate flavor. You may add any remaining sauce on top when serving for additional moisture and taste.

Notes

  • The cake and sauce are softer and more luscious when both are warm during soaking.
  • For an intensified chocolate flavor, stir in 50–60 grams of melted dark chocolate into the sauce.
  • Top the cake with shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or grated chocolate for extra texture and presentation.
