These Mango Chili Chicken Wings combine sweet, spicy, and tangy flavors in a crispy baked wing recipe. Perfect as a flavorful appetizer or main dish, the wings are baked to golden perfection and tossed in a vibrant mango chili sauce made with fresh mango, honey, chili flakes, garlic, and lime juice. Garnished with fresh cilantro or green onions and lime wedges, they are ideal for game day, parties, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Wings:

  • 2 lbs (900 g) chicken wings, separated into drumettes and flats
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Mango Chili Sauce:

  • 1 ripe mango, peeled and diced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 12 tsp chili flakes (adjust to desired spice level)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • ½ tsp salt

Optional Garnish:

  • Fresh cilantro or green onions, chopped
  • Lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wings: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Pat the chicken wings dry using paper towels to ensure crispiness. Toss the wings with olive oil, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated. Arrange the wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or place them on a wire rack for even cooking.
  2. Bake the Wings: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the wings for 35–40 minutes. Flip them halfway through the cooking time to ensure they become golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  3. Make the Mango Chili Sauce: While the wings bake, combine the diced mango, honey, chili flakes, minced garlic, lime juice, and salt in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook the mixture for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mango softens and the sauce thickens slightly. For a smooth texture, blend the sauce with a hand blender or regular blender if desired.
  4. Toss the Wings: Once the wings are baked, place them in a large bowl. Pour the prepared mango chili sauce over the wings and toss well to ensure each wing is thoroughly coated with the flavorful sauce.
  5. Serve: Garnish the wings with freshly chopped cilantro or green onions and serve with lime wedges on the side. Enjoy immediately as a delicious appetizer or main dish.

Notes

  • Adjust chili flakes according to your preferred spice level.
  • For extra crispiness, use a wire rack on the baking sheet so fat drips away from wings during baking.
  • Make sure to pat the wings dry before baking to enhance crispiness.
  • The mango chili sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • Serve immediately after tossing to maintain the wings’ crispy texture.
  • Substitute honey with maple syrup for a vegan option (adjust diet accordingly).
