Ingredients

Scale

For the Ground Beef

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 large pita breads or flatbreads
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

For the Cucumber Salad

  • 1 cup cucumber, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  2. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  3. Cook the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet along with ground cumin, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Cook, breaking the meat apart with a spoon, until it is browned and fully cooked through.
  4. Make the Cucumber Salad: In a bowl, combine diced cucumber, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and fresh dill. Mix well to coat the vegetables evenly and let it sit while you prepare the rest.
  5. Warm the Pita: Heat the pita breads either in a dry skillet for a minute or two on each side or in a preheated oven until warm and pliable.
  6. Assemble the Wraps: Layer the cooked ground beef inside each pita. Top with halved cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, chopped parsley, and a generous spoonful of the cucumber salad.
  7. Serve: Serve the wraps immediately while warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • For extra freshness, add a dollop of tzatziki or plain Greek yogurt inside the pita before adding the beef.
  • Feel free to swap ground beef for ground lamb or turkey for a variation in flavor.
  • To keep wraps warm before serving, cover them lightly with foil.
  • Cucumber salad can be prepared ahead and refrigerated to develop more flavor.
  • If you prefer, use gluten-free pita or flatbreads to make the recipe gluten-free.
