A juicy and flavorful Mushroom Swiss Burger featuring perfectly cooked beef patties topped with melted Swiss cheese and sautéed garlic mushrooms. This classic burger is complemented by fresh optional toppings and served on toasted buns for a satisfying meal perfect for any burger lover.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burgers

  • 400 g (14 oz) ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 2 burger buns, toasted
  • 1 tbsp butter or oil for cooking

For the Sautéed Mushrooms

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (button or cremini)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Optional Toppings

  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Onion slices
  • Pickles
  • Your favorite condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Mushrooms: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the sliced mushrooms, season with salt and black pepper, and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the mushrooms are soft and golden. Once done, set the mushrooms aside.
  2. Cook the Burgers: Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and form patties slightly larger than your buns. Season both sides of each patty with salt and black pepper. Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat, then cook the patties for 3 to 4 minutes on each side for medium doneness, adjusting the time to your preference. In the final minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover to allow the cheese to melt properly.
  3. Assemble the Burgers: Begin assembling by placing lettuce and tomato slices (if using) on the bottom halves of the toasted buns. Add the cooked burger patties with melted Swiss cheese on top. Spoon the sautéed mushrooms over the cheese, then add any additional optional toppings such as onions, pickles, or your favorite condiments. Finally, cover with the top bun and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute button or cremini mushrooms with other varieties like shiitake or portobello for different flavors.
  • For juicier burgers, handle the meat as little as possible when forming patties.
  • Adjust cooking times depending on preferred doneness; use a meat thermometer if needed.
  • To make the burger gluten-free, opt for gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps.
