A juicy and flavorful Mushroom Swiss Burger featuring perfectly seasoned ground beef patties topped with melted Swiss cheese and savory sautéed mushrooms. This recipe combines hearty beef with aromatic mushrooms and optional fresh toppings, making a classic and satisfying burger perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Burgers:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 recommended for juiciness)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 burger buns, toasted

For the Mushroom Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 oz (225 g) mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Toppings:

  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Mayo or aioli

Instructions

  1. Make the Mushroom Topping: Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add mushrooms and onion (if using), cooking for 5–6 minutes until they soften. Then, add minced garlic, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce and cook for another 1–2 minutes until mushrooms turn golden and fragrant. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Cook the Burgers: In a large bowl, season ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gently form into 4 patties, ensuring the centers are slightly thinner for even cooking. Heat a skillet or grill to medium-high heat. Cook each patty for 3–4 minutes per side to desired doneness. During the final minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover to melt.
  3. Assemble the Burgers: Place the cooked patties with melted cheese onto toasted buns. Generously spoon the sautéed mushroom topping over the cheese. Add optional toppings such as lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and mayo or aioli if desired. Close the buns and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest burgers.
  • Adding thinly sliced onions to the mushroom topping enhances flavor but is optional.
  • Make sure to toast buns to prevent sogginess and add texture.
  • Adjust seasonings in mushroom topping to your taste.
  • Cook patties to your preferred doneness; use a meat thermometer if needed (160°F recommended for ground beef).
  • Optional toppings can be skipped or customized based on dietary preferences.
