Cake:
- 2 ½ cups (310 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240 ml) vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 1 cup (240 ml) buttermilk (room temperature)
- 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel recommended)
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 16 oz (450 g) cream cheese (softened)
- 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter (softened)
- 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Make the Cake Layers – Preheat oven. Prepare pans. Mix dry ingredients. Whisk sugar, oil, eggs. Add buttermilk, coloring, vinegar, vanilla. Combine dry into wet. Bake and cool.
