For the Cake:
- 2 ½ cups (312g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp (15g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (240ml) vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp white vinegar
For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 225g (1 cup) cream cheese, softened
- 113g (½ cup) unsalted butter, softened
- 3 cups (360g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a 9×13-inch sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Prepare the cake batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. In another bowl, beat the sugar and oil, then add eggs one at a time. Mix in buttermilk, vanilla, red food coloring, and vinegar.
- Bake the cake: Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 28–32 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
