Ingredients

Scale

Spicy Halloumi

  • 250 g halloumi cheese (sliced)
  • 12 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chili flakes
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried oregano

Bread & Base

  • 1 large rustic bread loaf (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for brushing/toasting)

Platter Add-Ons

  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cucumber (sliced)
  • 1/2 red onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup olives (kalamata or mixed)
  • Fresh parsley or mint (to garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for freshness)

Optional Drizzle

  • 2 tbsp hot honey
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Halloumi: Slice the halloumi cheese into even pieces and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps achieve a crispier texture on cooking.
  2. Cook the Halloumi: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the halloumi slices and cook for 2–3 minutes on each side until they develop a golden, crispy crust.
  3. Season the Halloumi: Once cooked, sprinkle chili flakes, smoked paprika, black pepper, and dried oregano evenly over the hot halloumi to infuse it with smoky and spicy flavors.
  4. Toast the Bread: Brush the rustic bread slices lightly with olive oil. Toast them in a pan or oven until they are warm with a slight crisp on the crust.
  5. Assemble the Platter: Arrange the toasted bread slices on a large serving platter. Place the spicy halloumi in the center or distributed across the board.
  6. Add Fresh Vegetables: Surround the cheese and bread with cherry tomatoes, sliced cucumber, thinly sliced red onion, olives, and sprinkle fresh parsley or mint leaves on top for freshness and color.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Place lemon wedges on the platter for squeezing over before eating.
  8. Optional Sweet-Spicy Drizzle: Mix hot honey with lemon juice and drizzle over the halloumi for an additional layer of sweet and spicy flavor to finish the dish.

Notes

  • Patting the halloumi dry before cooking prevents it from sticking and helps achieve a crispy crust.
  • Adjust chili flakes amount to suit your spice preference.
  • Use fresh, rustic bread for the best texture and flavor contrast.
  • The optional hot honey drizzle adds sweetness and balances the spices; can be omitted for a milder taste.
  • This platter works well as a shared appetizer or a light lunch.
