For the Brownies:

  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (200g) light brown sugar
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (120g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt

For the Salted Caramel:

  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp (90g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream, warmed
  • ½ tsp sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×13-inch (23x33cm) baking pan.
  2. Make the caramel: Melt sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it turns amber. Add butter, stir until melted, then slowly pour in warm cream while whisking constantly until smooth. Stir in ½ tsp sea salt and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Prepare brownie batter: Whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, and salt, and fold gently until just combined.
  4. Layering: Pour half the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spread evenly, drizzle half the caramel over it. Add the remaining batter on top, then drizzle the rest of the caramel. Swirl gently with a knife for a marbled effect.
  5. Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until the edges are set but the center is slightly soft. Sprinkle with extra sea salt, allow to cool completely before slicing.
  6. Serve: Slice, serve, and enjoy!
