A quick and flavorful Sweet Chili Garlic Shrimp recipe, perfect for a spicy and sweet seafood dish that can be enjoyed as a main course with rice or noodles. This dish features succulent shrimp sautéed with garlic and coated in a tangy sweet chili sauce with a hint of heat from red pepper flakes.

Ingredients

Scale

Shrimp

  • 1 lb (450 g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp vegetable or olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • ¼ cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp lime juice
  • ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Garnish

  • Chopped green onions
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the shrimp: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the peeled and deveined shrimp with salt and pepper. Sauté the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Make the sauce: In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Stir in the sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens and all the flavors meld together.
  3. Combine shrimp and sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss thoroughly to coat them evenly in the sauce. Heat the shrimp with the sauce for 1 to 2 minutes to warm everything through.
  4. Serve: Plate the shrimp and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve hot, ideally with steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • You can adjust the red pepper flakes depending on your preferred heat level or omit for a milder dish.
  • For an extra depth of flavor, marinate the shrimp briefly in a little soy sauce and lime juice before cooking.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best aroma and taste.
  • This dish pairs well with jasmine rice, brown rice, or rice noodles.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
