Ingredients

Scale

For the Halloumi

  • 8 oz halloumi cheese, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Balsamic Drizzle

  • 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Pinch of salt

For the Mezze Platter

  • 23 pita breads or flatbreads, warmed and cut
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup olives (mixed green & black)
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta
  • Fresh parsley or mint for garnish
  • Optional: hummus or tzatziki for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Halloumi: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Brush the halloumi slices with olive oil and sprinkle evenly with dried oregano and black pepper to season.
  2. Cook the Halloumi: Place the seasoned halloumi slices in the hot skillet. Sear for 2–3 minutes on each side, until the cheese is golden brown and has a crispy exterior while remaining soft inside.
  3. Make the Balsamic Drizzle: In a small saucepan, combine balsamic vinegar and honey. Simmer over low to medium heat for 3–5 minutes until the mixture slightly thickens. Remove from heat, then stir in olive oil and a pinch of salt to balance the flavors.
  4. Warm the Pita Bread: Heat the pita or flatbreads until soft and lightly toasted. Cut into wedges or strips for easy serving.
  5. Assemble the Mezze Platter: On a large serving board or platter, arrange the cooked halloumi slices centrally. Surround with warm pita, halved cherry tomatoes, cucumber slices, thinly sliced red onion, olives, roasted red peppers, and crumbled feta cheese.
  6. Finish with the Balsamic Drizzle: Drizzle the balsamic glaze generously over the halloumi and lightly over the surrounding vegetables and pita for a sweet and tangy accent.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle fresh parsley or mint leaves over the platter. Serve immediately alongside optional dips like hummus or tzatziki for a complete Mediterranean experience.

Notes

  • Use good-quality halloumi for best texture and flavor.
  • If you prefer a vegan option, substitute halloumi with grilled tofu.
  • The balsamic glaze can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Warm the pita bread just before serving to keep it soft and pliable.
  • This platter is great for sharing and can be adapted with seasonal vegetables.
  • To reduce sodium, rinse olives briefly or choose low-sodium feta.
