Scale

Scone Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pumpkin purée
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp cold butter, cubed
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • Optional: extra pumpkin spice for spiced glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the scones.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the pumpkin purée, milk, egg, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt evenly.
  4. Incorporate Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Form Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until a sticky dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Shape and Cut: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a circle about 8 inches in diameter. Cut the circle into 8 equal wedges.
  7. Bake: Place the wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Bake in the preheated oven for 14–16 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Prepare Glaze: While the scones cool, whisk together powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Add a pinch of extra pumpkin pie spice if desired for a spiced glaze.
  9. Glaze Scones: Once the scones have cooled slightly, drizzle the glaze over each wedge. Allow the glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Use cold butter to ensure flaky, tender scones.
  • Do not overmix the dough to avoid tough scones.
  • Adjust milk in glaze to get desired consistency – thicker for drizzling, thinner for dipping.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • Reheat scones briefly in the oven for a freshly baked texture before serving.
